At Juja Senior School, we recognize the importance of ICT in the school curriculum. ICT is an experience in its own right,combining skills and concepts related directly to the use of computers and applications software. In addition, it is seen as a means of enriching and enhancing the delivery of all subjects across the curriculum.

Aims

  • To encourage a positive attitude towards the informed use of ICT.
  • To encourage the development of confidence and practical skills in the use of ICT.
  • To offer a broad and balanced perspective of the range of computer applications leading to an understanding of an individual user’s capabilities.
  • To develop an awareness of ethical, social and economic consequences of the use computers for individuals and for society.
  • To develop a knowledge and understanding of the concepts relevant to ICT.

The Facilities

The ICT Department has vast computers running on a Fibre Optic connection. These computers run the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft Office 2016 and have a range of general and specialist software to teach ICT practicals and support curriculum delivery across the school. The school has a Heptagon Wireless. Using this system students and teachers can access internet at any point. The service covers a large area and allows users to move for large distances while still being on-line. All the departments are connected to a fast Fibre Optic link to allow them access the Internet and ICT resources from offices.

The Curriculum

The Year 8,9,10 and 11 ICT students follow the IGCSE ICT syllabus offered by the CIE examination board. The theory paper accounts for 40 % while the practical paper 60% of the examination mark.

The 8.4.4 ICT students follow Kenya National Examinations Council’s syllabus. The students develop and learn to apply a broad range of ICT skills, while also gaining an understanding of the way ICT is used in the world of work. Candidates sit two papers, one covering theory and the other covering practical skills. The department is currently run by two members.
